Costs

Rosy receives a minimum grant from the government and relies mainly on private funding to run her projects. In
the ten years since she started the Fountain of Love,
she has managed her funds skillfully to make some major improvements to the orphanage, including building a new ablutions block and a new room to be able to house more kids, paving the courtyard where the children play surrounded by a fence, buying a mini-bus to transport the kids to school, and opening a second house to accommodate even more children. The orphanage was given a pick-up truck to collect free food donated by supermarkets, and a computer with printer together with internet access. Rosy and the Fountain of Love do amazing work on a shoe string. Basic monthly costs are:

  • Doctor’s visits: around R2 000
  • Electricity: R1 500
  • Caregivers: R1 500
  • School fees and uniforms, groceries and toiletries (including nappies), and other essentials
